A special screening of the film Duse (2025) with director Pietro Marcello, one of the most original voices in contemporary cinema.
Duse offers a compelling cinematic reflection on the life and artistic legacy of Eleonora Duse, an iconic figure in the history of theatre. Marcello is internationally recognised for his distinctive approach to filmmaking, which moves between documentary and fiction while engaging with themes of literary and historical relevance.
The event is organised by St John's Fellow Dr Luca Peretti, College Lecturer in Italian, Director of Studies in Italian, and Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture, and Dr Elena Sottilotta, Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics, and Research Fellow at Murray Edwards College.
A drinks reception will be held at 6.15pm in the Foyer of the Fisher Building, followed by the screening at 7pm in the Palmerston Room and a conversation with Marcello and Dr Katharine Mitchell (University of Strathclyde).
This event is supported by the Cambridge-Intesa Sanpaolo Fund and the Italian Cultural Institute in London. The film will be screened by St John's Picturehouse, the College's student cinema society.
Free entry, open to the public, booking is not required.
