The choir of
St John's

The Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge, is known and loved by millions from its broadcasts, concert tours & more than 100 recordings

The Choir of St John’s College is part of a centuries-old tradition at St John’s with a vibrant modern present. It consists of around 20 boy and girl treble Choristers from St John’s College School, alongside 18 mixed-gender Choral Scholars and Choral Graduates singing the alto, tenor, and bass parts, and two Organ Scholars. Under the guidance of Director of Music Christopher Gray, the Choir continues to develop its world-renowned ‘St John’s Sound,’ performing seven Chapel services per week during the University of Cambridge’s Full Term.

The Choir has a vast repertoire spanning over 500 years, and along with performing mainstays of the choral repertoire and a Bach cantata each term, the Choir has a special interest in championing new music. In recent decades, there have been commissions from most of the UK’s leading composers of choral music, as well as from numerous early-career artists in Cambridge and elsewhere.

Beyond enriching the liturgical life of St John’s College, the Choir reaches a global audience of millions through tours, recordings, digital platforms, and radio broadcasts that consistently receive widespread recognition.
