International Students

This is a brief introduction

St John’s welcomes international undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our academic community is home to students from more than 50 nationalities; this international diversity plays a vital role in sustaining our global reputation for academic excellence, attracting scholars at the forefront of their disciplines, and fostering enduring academic networks rooted in friendship, mutual understanding, and the sharing of knowledge worldwide.

Moving abroad to study an academically rigorous course in an unfamiliar culture can be daunting. However, we have decades of experience in welcoming students from across the globe to St John’s, supporting them to succeed in their studies and enjoy a fulfilling student experience.

As one of the largest Colleges in Cambridge, with almost 650 undergraduates and 350 postgraduates, St John’s offers a vibrant and active community, making it easier to build friendships and pursue shared interests.

All undergraduates are guaranteed College accommodation for the duration of their degree, and a large majority of postgraduates are also housed by the College throughout their course – a reassurance for many students coming from overseas.

Seemingly small things make a difference too, such as not having to vacate your room during the Christmas and Easter vacation periods.

The University’s International Student Office is the main source of specialist advice for students coming to Cambridge from outside the UK – including visa and immigration guidance and information about funding. This is complemented by the expertise of our Student Services Team, while the College Admissions Office can advise on entry requirements. Our admissions approach is consistent across all education systems: we look for applicants who demonstrate the greatest academic potential.
