Dr. Monty is an astronomer working in the fields of Galactice Archaeology, Near-Field Cosmology and Astrononomical Instrumentation. She is currently employed as a Research Associate in the Stellar Streams group at the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge. Prior to this, she completed her PhD in Astrophysics at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. Her work focuses on the origin and evolution of star clusters in the Milky Way through observations, theory, and simulations and through the development of next-generation instrumentation. Originally from Canada, she grew up in the Yukon where sightings of the Northern Lights were a common occurance before moving to British Columbia as a teenager. She is also a keen beginner beekeeper and secretary of the St. John's Beekeepers Society.
Dr. Monty supervises MAst/Part III students and co-supervises PhD students through the Institute of Astronomy. She has also taught as part of the MPhil in Data Intensive Science program delivered by the Department of Physics.
Dr. Monty's research interests include globular clusters, ancient stars, the Milky Way and local dwarf galaxies. She is also interested in astronomical instrumentation, specifically high resolution spectroscopy and adaptive optics.
Outside of work, as a displaced West Coast Canadian, Dr Monty is always in search of an adventure outdoors.
