Dr Garling is Emeritus Reader in Mathematical Analysis at the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics. He was formerly President of St John's College and a Tutor, and served for a period as Senior Proctor of the University.
Dr Garling's research focused on functional analysis, and particularly the geometry of Banach spaces, probabilistic methods, related inequalities and applications to classical analysis.
