Dr Colwell was appointed as College Lecturer in Mathematics for Natural Scientists in 1990. She has also served as Director of Studies, Tutor and Tutor for Graduate Affairs until retirement in 2019.
Dr Colwell supervises for Mathematics for Natural Sciences within the Natural Sciences Tripos and for Applied Mathematics within the Mathematics Tripos.
Her research focuses on quantum theory of molecules: methods for ab initio quantum chemistry and density functional theory calculations of energies and electromagnetic properties of molecules, and on non-linear dynamical systems theory: symmetric bifurcation theory.
