Background

Professor Manton entered St John's as an undergraduate, and stayed to complete a PhD in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). After postdoctoral positions in Paris and the USA, he returned to Cambridge and after some years became a lecturer then professor in DAMTP. He became a Fellow of St John's in 1997 and was Director of Studies in Applied Mathematics for a few years.
