Departmental homepageProfessor Richard Beadle graduated in English from St John's College, and was elected to a Research Fellowship in 1975. From 1979 to 2016 he was a College Lecturer and often a Director of Studies in English, and from 1984 to 1988 and from 2022 to 2024, served as Librarian. From 1988 to 2016 he was successively University Lecturer, Reader and Professor in the Faculty of English. During 2013 he was Lyell Reader in Bibliography in the University of Oxford, and during 2015, Sandars Reader in Bibliography in the University of Cambridge.
Professor Beadle's research interests focus on medieval and early modern English literature; the early history of European drama; palaeography, bibliography, textual and editorial studies; and the history of the book.
