Professor Dasgupta was Frank Ramsey Professor of Economics from 1965 to 2010. In 2019 he was commissioned by HM Treasury to lead an independent, global review on the Economics of Biodiversity. Known as the Dasgupta review, it presented its findings in 2021. Professor Dasgupta was named Knight Grand Cross of the British Empire in 2023. He has won the Volvo Environment Prize (2002), the John Kenneth Galbraith Prize (2006), the Zayed International Environment Prize (2011), the Blue Planet Prize (2015), the Tyler Prize (2016) and the Kew International Medal, Royal Botanical Garden (2021). He was named a Champion of the Earth by the United Nations in 2023. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Society and The World Academy of Sciences, a member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences and a foreign member of the American National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He is a founder member of the South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE), based in Kathmandu, Nepal.
