Departmental homepageProfessor Hynes was born and brought up in Liverpool. After training as a mathematician and after a short spell in industry, he worked for over 40 years at the Engineering Department in Cambridge, based at the Whittle Lab.
He supervises St John's Engineering undergraduates for various Part I courses in Mathematics and in Mechanical Engineering.
Professor Hynes acts as an external adviser to PhD students at the Whittle Laboratory working mainly towards more sustainable future aviation.
