Ray Jobling was a University Lecturer in Sociology. In St John's, he was a College Lecturer in Sociology and served a period as Senior Tutor. He was appointed MBE in 2014 for services to Pharmacy Education and Regulation.
His research focused on the sociology and politics of healthcare and health professions, especially medicine and pharmacy, as well as the psycho-social and cultural aspects of chronic illness, especially dermatological conditions.
