Bringing expertise in energy innovation and public policy at a critical stage in the UK’s transition to net zero, Professor Laura Diaz Anadon will join the UK’s Climate Change Committee (CCC).
Professor of Climate Change Policy at the University of Cambridge and Director of its Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG), Diaz Anadon is a leading authority on energy innovation, climate policy, and the transition to low-carbon systems. Her appointment to the Committee reflects her extensive experience advising governments and international organisations on climate and energy strategy.
Professor Diaz Anadon, Fellow and Director of Studies in Environment, Law, and Economics at St John’s, said: “I look forward to contributing to the Committee’s work at a critical point in the UK’s approach to net zero and climate policy.”
The Climate Change Committee plays a central role in shaping the UK’s response to the climate crisis, providing independent, evidence-based advice to Parliament and the devolved administrations. Its work includes recommending carbon budgets and assessing the nation’s progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Professor Diaz Anadon’s research focuses on the design of effective public policy to accelerate clean energy innovation and deployment. She has previously held senior advisory roles with governments and international bodies, and her work has contributed to global discussions on climate governance and sustainable development.
The UK has a legally binding target to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and has already reduced emissions by just over half compared to 1990 levels, with further cuts of around 78 per cent by 2035. Her appointment comes at a critical moment, as the country seeks to maintain momentum while addressing the economic and societal challenges of the transition.
