Economics Fellow awarded prize for ‘outstanding’ work with students

St John’s academic rated highly for going ‘over and above’ in her role

A College Fellow has been recognised for her excellent teaching by Economics students at the University of Cambridge.

Dr Petra Geraats, University Associate Professor in Economics, and St John’s College Lecturer and Director of Studies in Economics, has won a prize for Best Overall Teaching Performance in a new annual awards programme.

The Faculty of Economics Awards 2024-2025 honours academics and professional staff who have made an exceptional contribution, over and above expected in the role, this past academic year.

The Teaching Excellence Award presented to Dr Geraats is ‘in recognition of outstanding dedication, innovation, and excellence in teaching, and for inspiring students through exceptional educational leadership’.

The achievements were celebrated at an awards ceremony during an event at Gonville & Caius at the end of term.

Professor Oliver Linton, Professor of Political Economy and Chair of the Faculty, said: “This award, based on student feedback, reflects the deep appreciation and respect that Cambridge undergraduates have for Petra’s outstanding contributions as both an educator and a mentor. On behalf of the Faculty, thank you and congratulations.”
